Fudgy Chocolate Brownies

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • Optional: ½ cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter:
    • Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave.
    • Stir in sugar, cocoa, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Add eggs:
    • Beat in eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.
  4. Mix dry ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking powder.
    • Fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
    • Stir in chocolate chips or nuts if using.
  5. Bake:
    • Pour batter into prepared pan.
    • Bake 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs (do not overbake for fudgy brownies).
  6. Cool & serve:
    • Let brownies cool in pan 10–15 minutes before slicing.

  • Extra fudgy: Reduce flour to ⅓ cup and bake slightly less.
  • Chewy: Add 1 tsp espresso powder to enhance chocolate flavor.
  • Chocolate swirl: Drop dollops of cream cheese or peanut butter and swirl before baking.
